How Do I Move My Database onto Another Computer?
I bought a new computer and I want to move Simply Contacts Database and all my data onto the new computer. How do I do it?
Step 1. Install the software on the new computer.
If you have a copy of your old installation program (SCD-Install.exe), then you can copy it onto the new computer and run to install the software. If you don't have it, you can download it from our website.
If you choose to download, please note that the website may contain a newer version of the program than the one you had before, especially if you originally loaded the program a long time ago. In this situation you can either:
- upgrade to the latest version at no charge; execute Step 2 then perform the Upgrade Procedure.
- or contact us to request an old version. Your old Quotation Number for the original program will help us determine the system you require
Also, please ensure that you are downloading the same set of add-ons as was installed on the old system.
Step 2. Copy the data file from the old computer to the new computer.
The data file name and location is shown in the caption of program's window as highlighted by the red line:

In the example above the file is located in folder c:\program files\Simply Contacts Database\Database and is called file1.mdb . On some systems the .mdb extension is not shown and the file is called simply file1 with type "Microsoft Access Database", like this:

Copy that file onto your new computer, into some location where you can back it up daily and where it won't be accidentally deleted.
Step 3. Open the data file on the new computer.
Start Simply Contacts on the new computer and select function Open Simply Contacts data file.

When the program prompts for the file name, select the .mdb file you copied from to your new computer in Step 2.
Note. If the program's version is newer than the version you used to create this file, you may get this message:

In this case, you will need to perform an upgrade procedure described below:
Upgrade Procedure
Start the program on your new computer and selet function New Users: Create a new data file. Enter the name of a new file when prompted.
After the program re-opened, go to Data Exchange Department and select function Load from another Simply Contacts Data file.

When the program prompts you, select the file you have copied over from the old computer and press the Open button. The program will copy the structure and the data from the old file into the new one. If you have modified the database structure (eg added fields) on your old system then the program will copy the structure, then re-open the database and prompt you to repeat the operation. When you repeat it, it will copy the data.
Tip. You can also use function Load from another Simply Contacts data file to copy the structure only. Simply ignore the program's request to repeat the load after re-opening of the database.
